Verizon Wireless service has been restored to the Freeport area after cuts to fiber-optic cables disrupted service Tuesday.
Company communications manager Chris Serico said service was restored Wednesday afternoon after technicians fixed the cables.
He said one cut was made by wildlife and the cause of the other cut still is being investigated. Damage was done to both primary and secondary cables.
Borough Fire Marshal Michael Greiser announced late Tuesday that service was “unreliable” in parts of the borough and raised concerns about people having trouble making emergency calls.
“We found that around the borough there were definitely areas that calls dropped or there was no service at all,” he said at the time.
He recommended those impacted by the service disruption connect to Wi-Fi to make calls, as well as go to their neighbors or come to the fire station if necessary.
Serico said people should have been able to dial 911 regardless of the service disruption, as those emergency calls go through any cell network regardless of whether the caller is a customer.
