Vandergrift man accused of kidnapping baby in Arnold
A Vandergrift man is accused of beating up a woman and kidnapping her baby Saturday in Arnold.
Police arrested Jusu Jeovainni Kanneh Jr., 30, of Grant Street at his home after the woman accused him of assaulting her and taking her 4-month-old son from her when she arrived at her cousin’s house along Victoria Avenue.
The woman told Arnold police that Kanneh began screaming at her and pulling her out of her vehicle, according to the criminal complaint filed in the case. He also slammed the door against her head.
After Kanneh pulled the woman from the vehicle, he took the car seat with her baby in it and drove away, the woman told police. She said Kanneh lives in Vandergrift and was most likely headed back there, according to the complaint.
The woman had a large red welt and swelling around and above her left eye and multiple red marks and bruising on her left arm, according to the complaint. A witness confirmed the incident, police said.
Vandergrift police took both the child and Kanneh into custody at Kanneh’s residence. Kanneh is not the father of the child, according to the complaint. Police did not say where the child was taken.
Kanneh was released on a $25,000 unsecured bond after arraignment. No attorney is listed for him in court records.
He is charged with kidnapping and simple assault. A preliminary hearing is set for May 30.
