Vacant property owned by Upper Burrell off Milligantown Road soon will be up for sale.

On Wednesday, the township supervisors directed Jim Collodi, a Lower Burrell real estate agent, to appraise the property of just under 3 acres. It’s across the road from Jack’s Backyard Bar and Grill.

“It’s a nice, open field,” Supervisors Chairman Ross Walker III said.

The property is zoned for residential use.

Once Collodi completes the appraisal, the township will put the property out for bid, Walker said. He anticipates the minimum bid price being the appraised cost. The township plans to advertise the property and collect sealed bids.

Upper Burrell has owned the property for more than 30 years, Walker said.

Walker said he “heard through the grapevine” a few people might be interested in purchasing the property but otherwise hasn’t fielded inquiries about the land over the years.

“We’re not using it for anything,” Walker said. “It’s time to sell it.”

It would mark the second time within the past year that Upper Burrell has sold property it owns.

A neighborhood group in the Lincoln Beach section of the township purchased roughly 3 acres of land off Mosaic Boulevard in July.

At $20,000, the group was the highest of four bids seeking to acquire the property.
