Two Harrison girls will be sent to juvenile court for allegedly setting part of a Harrison loading dock on fire Sept. 2.
The girls, ages 12 and 13, caused less than $1,000 in damage to a rear loading dock of the former Save-A-Lot in Heights Plaza.
Citizens Hose Fire Chief Sean Jones said Wednesday the fire was limited to the dock’s rubber bumpers. The flames didn’t get into the building, although there was some smoke damage.
He said a state fire marshal interviewed the girls, who are not being identified because of their age.
Harrison police Chief Mike Klein said Wednesday the girls are facing juvenile charges of arson and causing criminal damage.
Firefighters from Harrison, Tarentum and Lower Burrell responded to the blaze.
Jones said the fire was under control in about 20 minutes thanks to the quick work of staff from the nearby Big Lots and township police. Jones said they were using fire extinguishers until firefighters arrived.
One firefighter was treated at the scene for a cut on their head . He hit his head inside a fire truck when it struck a pothole at the scene. No one was injured as a result of the fire.
The building was being used to store Harrison Township’s Christmas decorations. Those items were not damaged.
