Norfolk Southern officials are investigating a train crash Friday afternoon along the 100 block of Colfax Street in Springdale.
Borough Fire Chief Kevin Wilhelm said a tractor-trailer carrying bricks and building materials was struck at the crossing near the PPG Coating & Resins plant around 4 p.m. Friday.
No injuries were reported.
The truck was damaged and spilled its load on one side of the tracks near the plant’s employee parking lot. The truck blocked the employees’ exit as well as a road leading to the next crossing.
The train started to move again shortly after 6:30 p.m.
It is unclear what caused the crash or if the crossing warning lights erected there were flashing at the time of the incident.
Railroad crews on scene referred questions to the company’s corporate communications department, which did not immediately return messages.
Wilhelm said his department responds to about three train crashes a year, including the crossing at Colfax Street where this happened and at the Blockdale Street crossing in neighboring Cheswick.
