Adventures with Wine dinner to benefit Peoples Library

The Peoples Library Adventure with Wine dinner will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 15 at the New Kensington library, 880 Barnes St.

Several wines will be paired with food presented by Hoffstot’s Cafe Monaco of Oakmont and there will be a basket auction. Food stations will include chopped apple gorgonzola salad, pumpkin bisque, goat cheese and smoked salmon crostini, coconut chicken skewers, seared pork tenderloin and a gelato bar with smores and caramel apple gelato.

Cost is $50 per person, and proceeds benefit Peoples Library. Reservations are required by 5 p.m. Oct. 11. For reservations, visit peopleslibrary.org, or stop in at the New Kensington or Lower Burrell library locations with cash or a check. For questions, call 724-339-1021, ext. 1.


NK Salvation Army to offer holiday assistance, coats

The New Kensington Salvation Army is accepting applications in-person by appointment for assistance for holiday gifts for children 13 and younger and Project Bundle Up coats, boots, hats and gloves for children younger than 18 and seniors 62 and over at the center, 255 Third St., New Kensington.

Appointments will be available from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1 and Oct. 2, 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 3 and 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 4.

Applications will be accepted on a first-come and most-need basis. Coat vouchers are not available to anyone who received one the previous year. Bring identification, proof of household income and residence, children’s birth certificates and three gift ideas for each child. Allegheny Valley SD plans annual senior citizens brunch

Reservations are being accepted for the Allegheny Valley School District’s annual Senior Citizens brunch set for 10:30 a.m. Oct. 18 in the Springdale Jr.-Sr. High School cafeteria.

Residents 62 and older who live in the district are welcome. Reservations are required. To make a reservation, call 724-274-5300 by Oct. 9.
