NK Salvation Army to offer holiday assistance, coats

The New Kensington Salvation Army is accepting applications in-person by appointment for assistance for holiday gifts for children 13 and younger and Project Bundle Up coats, boots, hats and gloves for children younger than 18 and seniors 62 and over at the center, 255 Third St., New Kensington.

Appointments will be available from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 30, Oct. 1 and Oct. 2, 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 3 and 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 4.

Applications will be accepted on a first-come and most-need basis. Coat vouchers are not available to anyone who received one the previous year. Bring identification, proof of household income and residence, children’s birth certificates and three gift ideas for each child. Walk fundraiser to aid American Heart Foundation

The Willie Thrower Award Foundation Walk to benefit the American Heart Association will be Oct. 6 starting at Feldarelli Square, 2300 Freeport Road, New Kensington.

Sonward Youth program looking for reading tutors

Volunteer tutors are needed by the Sonward Youth program in New Kensington.

Tutors are assigned their own student and will meet in person from 4 to 5:15 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Oct. 1 at the program center, 601 Sixth St. Training and materials are provided.
