Kiski Area jazz camp accepting registrations

The Kiski Area Summer Jazz Camp for students from any district who will finish fifth through 12th grade will be from 8 a.m. to noon June 10 to 13 at Kiski Area High School, 240 Hyde Park Road, Allegheny Township.

Students who play saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, guitar or a rhythm section instrument will be placed in combos and groupings based on their experience level. Teachers will be local professional jazz educators and musicians and there will be a free concert at 11 a.m. June 13 in the high school auditorium.

Volunteer tire handlers needed at Washington Township recycling event

Volunteers are needed for a tire recycling event planned from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 18 at the Washington Township maintenance building, 3778 Route 66, rain or shine.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, wear closed-toe shoes and old clothes and be able to lift 20 to 50 pounds and stack tires. Waivers from the conservation district must be signed and safety vests and gloves will be provided.

Volunteers do not have to be stay for the whole event. To offer your time, contact Chrissy Edwards-McCune at 724-837-5271, ext. 116 or chrissy@wcdpa.com. The event is sponsored by Westmoreland Cleanways and Recycling, Washington Township and the Westmoreland Conservation District’s West Nile virus program.

American Cancer Society seeks volunteer drivers

The American Cancer Society is looking for volunteers to drive cancer patients to treatment appointments.

Access to timely, high-quality treatment can often be a cancer patient’s largest roadblock to survival. The society’s Road to Recovery program fills the gap when friends and family are unable to help out.

There will be stations to make a Mother’s Day gift, gift bags for finished projects and a chance to win a gift certificate to a local art studio.

Saturday: A spring bingo to benefit Lower Valley Community Food Bank will be at 7 p.m. at the Acme Club, 230 Herron Ave. Doors open at 6 p.m. Cost: $25, includes six bingo cards for 10 games, snacks and bottled water. Extra cards, and tickets for special games, lottery sure tips, a summer drink bundle and 50-50 raffle will be sold. Bring non-perishable food items for the food bank and receive a free bingo card. Thursday: Cheswick Community Relations Committee will host a ladies night out event “Buyer’s Remorse Extravaganza” from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Blue Haven Lounge, 492 Nixon Road. Bring five gently used items you can’t return but are too good to throw away and go home with three items brought by others. Acceptable items include purses, wallets, gloves, sunglasses, jewelry, makeup bags, scarves and watches. No clothing or shoes please. Remaining items will be donated to women in need. Today: Community Library of Allegheny Valley will be closed for computer updates. No computer services will be available, including check-in and checkout. The library is scheduled to reopen on Saturday.

Saturday: Burtner House Restoration Society will have a cleanup day from noon to 4:30 p.m. at the homestead, 1650 Burtner Road, Natrona Heights. Everyone is welcome to lend a hand.

Saturday: The Diaper Pantry at Christ Our Hope Anglican Church will distribute diapers from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church, 926 Painter Ave., and at Sheldon Park, both in Natrona Heights. Recipients must drive up and remain in their vehicles. First-time recipients must provide their own identification, the child’s birth certificate and a current WIC or SNAP card.

Indiana Township

Saturday: The free Drive-In Movies in the Parks program sponsored by the Allegheny County Parks Department will present “The Super Mario Brothers Movie” at dusk at Hartwood Acres Amphitheater, 4000 Middle Road. Gates open at 7 p.m. The movie is rated PG and guests are welcome to bring their own snacks and drinks. Tune your car radio to 87.9 FM for sound.

Kiski Township  

May 18: Kiski Township Volunteer Fire Department will host a spring bingo at 7 p.m. at the firehall, 1037 Route 56. Proceeds will benefit the Back to School Carnival planned for Aug. 24. Doors open at 6 p.m. Cost: $25, includes six regular games that pay $50; three specials that pay $100; and a $1,000 must-go jackpot. The kitchen will be open. There will be a meet-and-greet, Stretch and Flex exercise, games, lunch and entertainment. Sponsored by the Department of Veterans Affairs, all veterans are welcome.
