Lower Burrell church offers free reading workshop

Redemption Church Reading Outreach Tutoring will sponsor a free parent and child reading workshop for families with children age 4 through first grade from 6 to 7 p.m. June 28 at the church, 232 Hillcrest Drive, Lower Burrell.

Parents will learn the key reading-readiness skills their child needs and fun ways to practice those skills while reading books. Families will take home a new picture book and reading readiness skills bookmarks.

Free concert planned Tuesday in West Deer

Highpointe at Rebecca will host a free outdoor concert featuring The HighLife Band at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the facility, 1871 Highpointe Lane, West Deer.

Tours of the campus will be available at 2 p.m. and free parking is available. Registration is required.

Corpus Christi procession rescheduled to be Thursday

The New Kensington Catholic Community Corpus Christi procession that was to be June 16 at Mary Queen of Apostles School, 110 Elmtree Road, New Kensington, was postponed and rescheduled to happen Thursday.

Participants will meet at 6 p.m. at the Ten Commandments monument in front of the school for songs and prayer and then will process while praying the Rosary. Parish pastors, members of the Knights of Columbus and Rosary leaders from St. Joseph, St. Mary of Czestochowa and Mt. St. Peter parishes will lead the procession past Feldarelli Square and back to the Ten Commandments monument and down Elmtree Road and back again. Rain date is June 23.

Light refreshments will be served afterward. The public is welcome.

Today: Building Block of Natrona will host its free Veggies for All and Cosmetics Closet outreach for residents in need at 1 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 28 Garfield St., Natrona.
