Corpus Christi procession postponed due to forecasted weather

Due to the forecasted storms and extreme heat, the New Kensington Catholic Community has postponed tonight’s Corpus Christi procession at Mary Queen of Apostles School, Freeport Road.

The event will now begin at 6 p.m. June 23 at the school.


Strawberry Festival planned Saturday at Burtner House

The 46th annual Burtner House Strawberry Festival will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Burtner House homestead, 965 Burtner Road, Natrona Heights, Harrison.

There will be Civil War re-enactors, crafters, demonstrations, food, a bake sale and basket auction. Parking and shuttle service will be available from the dirt parking area at Citizens Hose Firehall, Freeport Road, Harrison. No parking is available at the festival.

Admission is $10; students and senior citizens, $5; younger than 6, free. Proceeds benefit Burtner House Restoration Society.


Oakmont and Verona to host firemen’s parade

The Allegheny County Firefighters Convention parade will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday in Oakmont.

The parade will start at Pennsylvania Avenue and Allegheny River Blvd. in Oakmont and proceed down Allegheny River Blvd to East Railroad Avenue in Verona.


Free cookout planned in New Kensington

Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, New Kensington, will host a Juneteenth community cookout at noon Saturday at the church, 1150 Fourth Ave.

There will be free Kona Ice for the first 150 customers, a pop-up free store and summer fun bags for children while they last.


String quartet to play outdoor concert at Peoples Library

The Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra String Quartet will play a free concert at noon Saturday in the courtyard behind Peoples Library, 880 Barnes St., New Kensington.

Friday: The YMCA will sponsor a School’s Out Summer Bash for children in first through sixth grade from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Y, 5021 Freeport Road.
