Verona and Oakmont to host Allegheny County Firefighters
The Allegheny County Firefighters convention will be Saturday through June 18 in Verona and Oakmont.
Events include:
• A Night at the Races will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Verona Fire Department on Parker Street. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $20 per person and includes food and drinks.
• The Battle of the Barrel will be at 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday in Oakmont’s Riverside Park on Third Street.
• A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. June 17 at the Verona Fire Department.
• The parade will begin at 5 p.m. June 18 at the intersection of Allegheny River Blvd. and Pennsylvania Avenue in Oakmont and proceed to East Railroad Avenue in Verona.
Volunteers needed to do exterior improvements in Apollo
The Apollo Rock the Block event to help neighbors in need will be from 9 a.m. to noon June 18 in the borough.
Volunteers are needed to assist residents in and around Apollo with exterior improvement projects like painting, porch and step repairs and lawn care. No experience required. Lunch and an event T-shirt will be provided. Volunteers will meet at 8:30 p.m. to check in and receive assignments at Apollo United Presbyterian Church, 401 First St. Rain date is July 23.

Boaters bash planned July 9 in New Kensington
Lighthouse Marina, New Kensington, will host a Rockin’ For Lockin’ Boaters Bash from 1 to 10 p.m. July 9 at the marina, 799 Industrial Blvd.
There will be performances by Peace Sign, Shiners, 13 Stories and Glitz; food trucks, raffles and a blessing of the boats ceremony.
