Tails on the Trails fundraiser welcomes canine participants

The 15th annual Tails on the Trails dog walk to benefit Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 28 at Freeport Community Park, 115 Community Park Road, Freeport.

There will be vendors, games, food trucks and raffles. Cost is $25 if paid by Sept. 12 and will be $30 the day of the event.

Free bereavement care event for children planned

Good Samaritan Hospice, a mission of Concordia Lutheran Ministries, will host a free youth bereavement care event from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 7 in the family supportive services room at its Middlesex Township office, 116 Browns Hills Road, Valencia.

The theme will be “Stronger Than Grief.” Those attending will create their own graphic novel and make a superhero cape or shirt. Adults can relax at a breakout session with a bereavement coordinator.

Children 21 and younger who are accompanied by a caregiver are welcome. Reservations are required by Sept. 2. To register, call 800-720-2557 or visit concordialm.org.

Participants must be at least 13 years of age with a parent/guardian who is 18 or older as a paid participant on the water as well. Today: The Allegheny Valley Salvation Army and Community Center will distribute free grab-and-go lunches from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the center parking lot, 917 Brackenridge Ave. Free grocery items from Walmart and Aldi will be available. Everyone is welcome.

Sept. 21: The auxiliaries of Pioneer Hose and Hilltop Hose companies will host a super bingo at Pioneer Hose Company, 124 Morgan St. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., early birds start at 12:45 p.m. and regular bingo begins at 1 p.m. Cost: $35, in advance, will be $40 at the door; includes a light lunch and bingo packet. East Vandergrift

Aug. 31, Sept. 1 and 2: Our Lady, Queen of Peace Parish is selling tickets for a 3-day lottery raffle. The winning number will be the 7 p.m. Pennsylvania Pick-3 lottery number each night.
