Springdale to celebrate Community Day
Springdale Community Day will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday in the borough.
There will be food, vendors, entertainment, raffles, children’s games and a 50/50. Springdale Team of Active Residents (STAR) will sponsor the Dynamo Car Show Rally from 4 to 8 p.m. on Lincoln Avenue between Center Street and Walters Lane.
Springdale Free Public Library, 331 School St., will host an open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with free coffee and make-and-take projects. A craft show and bake sale will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Springdale United Presbyterian Church, 859 Pittsburgh St. Lunch featuring sloppy joes will be sold.
Family Fun Fest planned in Vandergrift
Vandergrift First United Methodist Church, 134 Custer Ave., will host a Family Fun Festival from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church, rain or shine.
Free backpacks with school supplies will be distributed and blessed and there will be a petting zoo, games, crafts, face painting and food. Everything is free and everyone is welcome.
Grand reopening set at Animal Protectors
Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley will host a grand reopening celebration from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at its new location, 730 Church St., New Kensington.
There will be face painting, a yard sale, flea market, doggy nail trims and raffle.
Roaring Run Watershed Association to sponsor Civil War event
A Walk Through History on the Roaring Run Trail will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the trail in Kiski Township.
The 62nd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Living History Family will host educational sessions about women in the Civil War, cooking during the Civil War, a kids’ battle, live cannon demonstration and impersonators. Rain dates are Aug. 20 and 21.
Drake Log Cabin in Apollo will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. The Roaring Run Watershed Boat Launch and parking lots will be closed. Kayakers will be allowed to be dropped off and picked up, but no parking will be available. Shuttle buses will be available continuously at 310 Clifford Ave. in Apollo.
