Tarentum is looking for a new council member.

Second Ward representative Adam Blythe resigned from council May 31 after citing limited time availability, according to council President Scott Dadowski.

“He has a lot on his plate, and he didn’t think it was fair to the borough not to give 100%,” Dadowski said.

Blythe could not be reached for comment. Council was expected to formally accept Blythe’s resignation Tuesday night.

Borough officials have 30 days to fill the position.

Residents who live in the 2nd Ward and are interested in municipal government can apply to fill the seat through next year. Then the appointee would have the chance to run for election to a full, four-year term.

The 2nd Ward sits between the railroad tracks and the Allegheny River and runs from the Brackenridge line to Bull Creek.

Council next meets at 6 p.m. July 5 — one week earlier than originally scheduled — during which time they hope to appoint a replacement.

If no one steps up, the responsibility will fall on the borough’s vacancy board to fill the seat.

“I’m hoping someone will take an interest and want to join us,” Dadowski said.

Blythe was first appointed to council in 2017.

A financial manager and resident of Second Avenue, Blythe was elected to a full four-year term in 2017 and again last year.

Dadowski said Blythe’s resignation will be a big loss for council.

“He has a great background in business and finance,” Dadowski said. “He was my go-to guy at budget time, and his perspective with money and figures was huge for us.”

Anyone interested in applying for the council seat can contact the borough at 724-224-1818.
