Tarentum’s loss is Murrysville’s gain.

Tarentum Borough Manager Michael Nestico is expected to resign during a council meeting May 10 to take the job as Murrysville’s top administrator.

Tarentum Council President Scott Dadowski said council is aware of Nestico’s decision and that his leaving will be a loss for the borough.

“He’s been here about five years, and we accomplished a lot,” Dadowski said. “The borough is headed in the right direction, though, and he is credited for much of that.”

Regarding Nestico’s new job in Murrysville, “It’s a career opportunity for his family,” Dadowski said.

Nestico, an attorney, was hired by Tarentum in 2017 after serving as the manager in Jeannette, where he lives.

He begins his new post on June 6.

Murrysville’s current manager, Jim Morrison, is retiring after 14 years.

He said Nestico was chosen from among a pool of applicants because he was the best qualified.

“It was a lengthy, competitive process and he did well throughout,” Morrison said. “There were reviews by the mayor, staff and a blue-ribbon committee of residents.”

He did not recall how many people applied for the job.

Tarentum council member Carrie Fox thanked Nestico for having a positive impact on the borough.

“Tarentum is in a good place,” she said.

The borough is expected to launch a search for a new manager next week.

Dadowski said it will be a rigorous search, completed with the help of the Allegheny League of Municipalities’ Public Partners Program.

Fox said council will seek a manager with a background in municipal government, zoning and code enforcement, and “excellent social skills.”

It’s an opportunity to hear new ideas, she said.

“I look forward to moving Tarentum in the right direction and working with the new person,” Fox said.

Nestico’s last day in Tarentum is expected to be June 3.
