Tarentum Council is expected to rename three alleys in upper East Tarentum to resolve duplication, officials said.

Council will consider the move during its Nov. 9 meeting .

The alleys are named Cedar, Center and Locust.

The problem is the borough also has Cedar, Center and Locust streets.

“These alleys have official names on paper only,” Borough Manager Michael Nestico said. “They do not actually have homes situated on them. Nor do they have street signs posted.”

Nestico said borough leaders only learned recently the alley names conflict with other street names in town.

“This is really just a minor administrative item so that they no longer have conflicting names,” he said.

Newly proposed names will be Gabriel Way, Dominic Way and Luca Way, respectively.

Cedar Alley runs north, from East 10th Avenue to Hedge Alley. It is between Highland and Summit streets.

Nearby Center Alley runs from East 11th Avenue to Hedge Alley, between Park and Highland streets.

Locust Alley runs from East 11th Avenue to Hedge Alley, between Constitution and Park streets.

Anyone interested in attending the Nov. 9 meeting should note the meeting falls on the second Tuesday of November because of Election Day being Nov. 2. Borough meetings usually are the first Tuesday of the month.

Council will consider a second ordinance during the meeting that targets lock boxes at construction sites.

The new law would require the installation of a key lock box for any new commercial construction or structural renovations to ensure emergency responders have access, Nestico said.

“We want to ensure that our first responders do not have to break in doors or cause damage to a facility unless necessary,” he said.
