Tarentum considers bids for West 8th Avenue waterline replacement
Tarentum is gearing up for a major waterline project on West Eighth Avenue this year.
The borough got six bids to replace the waterline along almost all of the road, borough Manager Michael Nestico said. One block was not included because of cost.
Ron Gillette Inc. of Harrison submitted the lowest bid, a little more than $450,000 and awarded the contract Thursday evening. The next closest bidders were W.A. Petrakis Contracting of Export, which bid just under $480,000, and S.E.T. Inc. of Lowellville, Ohio which submitted a bid of just under $500,000.
The borough received a $400,000 state grant that will cover most of the cost.
The borough is required to put up 15 percent, or $60,000, according to Nestico. The borough included that money in this year’s budget.
Gillette’s price falls in line with the money available, Nestico said.
Officials said they didn’t know when the work would start, but the contractor will be required to get it done within a set amount of time.
