Seven streets are slated to be worked on in Tarentum this year.

Borough council has approved the list of roads that will be resurfaced.

They are:

• West Fourth Avenue, from Bull Creek to the railroad crossing (half width of roadway);

• West Sixth Avenue/Center Street intersection;

• Center Street/West 12th Avenue intersection;

• 200 block of West 12th Avenue;

• Hill Street, from Bakerstown Road to Locust Street;

• Locust Street, from Hill Street to Weaver Way;

• Weaver Way, from Bakerstown Road to Locust Street.

According to Gibson-Thomas Engineering, the work is expected to cost about $101,600. That includes $7,500 for traffic control and a 10% contingency for unforeseen issues.

The single most expensive road to be worked on is West Fourth Avenue, which is expected to cost about $30,600, according to Gibson-­Thomas.

Council President Scott Dadowski said the roads selected are considered to be in the worst condition. The cost will be paid from the borough’s general fund budget, he said.

Borough Manager Michael Nestico said the borough will be working with Gibson-Thomas to get the project out for contract bids.

“It will probably go out within the next month or so,” he said. “From there, we will review bids and hopefully award at our June meeting.”

Once a contract is awarded, the project’s start will depend on the contractor’s schedule, Nestico said.

“It would be ideal to have the project done by midsummer,” he said.
