Springdale’s Republican incumbent Mayor Joel Anderson now leads his opponent by three votes after Allegheny County updated its unofficial election results.

The unofficial results currently show Anderson with 521 votes to Democrat John Murray’s 518. Initial unofficial results had shown Anderson leading by a single vote, 517-516.

Anderson did not respond to a TribLive request for comment.

The updated numbers come as Allegheny County officials continue to consider provisional ballots cast on Election Day.

A provisional ballot records a vote while the county board of elections determines whether it can be counted. Provisional ballots are cast for a number of reasons, including discrepancies in the poll book or to ensure voters did not vote both by mail and in person.

Springdale ballot tallies recorded 10 provisional ballots cast in the borough.

County spokeswoman Abigail Gardner said the elections office can’t be sure if there are any more votes that could be counted in the race. Only 200 remain in all of Allegheny County, she said, which will be uploaded on Tuesday.

Murray said he was “disappointed” to see the updated numbers placing him further behind.

He said he doubted the practicality of a recount, however, and would likely concede.

“I’m just looking for unity,” Murray said.
