A fourth generation of Springdale firefighters are among volunteers who will bring to life the nearly 90-year-old Fireman’s Jubilee starting Monday.
The fun begins with carnival rides, bingo and a family night emphasis at Veterans’ Field, said Springdale VFD station 273 Secretary Jeannie Harman.
It’s the largest annual fundraiser for the borough’s fire department.
The family-centric Jubilee continues nightly through Friday.
Monday is family feed night.
“For $20.19 you can feed a family with a whole pepperoni pizza, four hog dogs, four drinks two orders of firefighter fries,” Harman said.
Bingo inside a tent, instant bingo and Chuck-A-Luck will be there again Tuesday night. So will 31 vendors offering their wares.
An animal rescue group also will be present to explain what it does and how it relies on the public.
On Wednesday, at about 6:30 p.m., the focus will be on feathers with a live bird show.
Each night there will be hot sausage sandwiches, fresh cut fries, hotdogs, pizza and fish sandwiches for sale by firefighters.
Zachary Wilhelm, a 4th generation firefighter, said he has participated in the Jubilee since he was a kid.
“It’s important for the department,” said Wilhelm, 19. His father, uncle and aunt are members, just like his grandfather and great-grandfather before.
Fireworks by Gibson Fireworks will begin at 10 p.m. Thursday and more hometown fun will continue with the firemen’s parade that will step off Friday at 6 p.m.
Four parade floats will be judged by three outside residents. “STAR (Springdale Active Residents) is sponsoring the contest,” Harman said.
Two Springdale veterans, who will be honored, will ride in classic cars.
Einar Sherosky, a veteran, is 101, Harman said. “He’s our oldest citizen.”
Emelio Saldari, 94, who finally received his Springdale High School Diploma in April — 75 years late because he was drafted to serve in World War II, also will be honored.
The parade will include the Springdale High School marching band and four other marching units.
Two winning tickets will be drawn for the cash raffle at 9:30 p.m. Friday. The first prize is for $1,000. The second is for $250.
A bicycle raffle will also be held.
Tickets will be available through the Jubilee at the firefighter’s tent.
