The pancakes at Fawn No. 1 volunteer fire department must be pretty tasty. Santa is scheduled to travel there on Sunday for breakfast.
Local children are invited to join him from 10 a.m. to noon for pancakes, sausage and scrambled eggs.
The event is a joint project between Fawn No. 1 and No. 2.
“What better way to kick off the holiday season?” asked Jill Jenson, a Fawn No. 2 firefighter and department treasurer.
The festive get-together will feature crafts, face-painting and raffles.
Cost is $10.
This is the first such event for the neighboring departments, said volunteer Barb Selfridge, though the two paired up for a Trunk-or-Treat event at Halloween.
“We’re just trying to reach out to the community with another fun event for the kids,” Selfridge said.
Jenson said it makes sense for the departments to partner in light of declining volunteerism that plagues nonprofits everywhere.
“With so few volunteers these days, we’ve started to combine efforts, and it’s a great opportunity for us to work together,” she said.
Several raffle baskets were compiled thanks to support from local businesses.
“We are fortunate to have people sponsoring these programs,” she said.
She hopes to continue offering the joint programs, especially those geared for children.
Already, the guest list to meet and greet Santa is at about 60, Jenson said.
The Fawn No. 1 social hall is along Firehouse Lane.
