A one-month jong road closure in Allegheny Township is scheduled to begin Sept. 1 for Leechburg Valley Road. The closure will affect the road between Piper and Pleasant Hill roads. A posted detour will take motorists to White Cloud Road, then Bonfire Shortcut Road and onto Route 56.

The closure of a section of Route 356 in Allegheny Township has been extended another month, PennDOT announced Thursday.

Route 356 closed between Piper and Pleasant Hill roads on Sept. 1, and had been scheduled to reopen Thursday.

The road is now scheduled to reopen on Monday, Nov. 1, PennDOT said. A reason for the extension was not given; a PennDOT spokesman could not be reached for comment.

Crews are reconstructing the road.

About 10,000 vehicles travel that part of Route 356 daily.

The posted detour will use White Cloud Road and Bonfire Shortcut to get back to Route 56.
