A retaining wall will be reconstructed along Baileys Run Road in East Deer.

Motorists who’ve been dealing with a long-term closure along Baileys Run Road in East Deer might have been relieved to see the road reopen Wednesday.

But they’ll have to be patient a bit longer.

Another section of the road, between the Route 28 ramp and Freeport Road, closed at the same time.

Traffic will be restricted at the ramp through October while crews build a retaining wall and make drainage improvements.

“I think people are getting impatient,” Commissioner Tony Taliani said.

“They totally rebuilt the road and the storm drainage last year, and now they’re ripping up sections. It’s frustrating.

“In my opinion, the retaining wall should’ve been done at that time with all those disruptions, but that didn’t happen so we’re seeing closures again.”

The cost of the project is $1.5 million. Plum-based Pugliano Construction Co. landed the contract.

Baileys Run is used by about 4,300 drivers a day, according to Allegheny County.

A suggested detour will have vehicles use Russellton Airport Road to Butler Logan Road and then Crawford Run to Freeport Road.

The county’s public works department closed the first section of Baileys Run in the 400 block in May to replace several hundred feet of retaining wall just beyond the Route 28 on-ramp.

The newest closure sits about a half-mile away in the 200 block and is expected to impact more than just residents because of its location near the expressway.

“There’s a lot of people who use that as an access to get to work or to get to events at the brewery,” Taliani said.

“The county is doing a very good job, and it’s definitely an improvement. I just wish it wouldn’t be such a long closure.”
