Eleven bands were scheduled to perform Sunday during New Ken-Arnold Social’s ‘Rockin’ Roosevelt’ benefit concert at Roosevelt Park in Arnold.

New Ken-Arnold Social in the Park got the summer season underway Sunday with its annual “Rockin’ Roosevelt” benefit concert at Arnold’s Roosevelt Park.

A lineup of 11 bands were scheduled to perform, each for half-hour sets from noon to 8 p.m.

With the bands all donating their time, proceeds from the $5 per person admission will go toward improving the park.

Mayor Shannon Santucci said the city plans to combine the money raised with grant dollars. Plans include the creation of two basketball courts and a new pavilion, redoing the turf near the entrance and new swings, she said.

Roosevelt Park is now open from dawn to dusk every day.

From June 17 to Aug. 9, Santucci said the city will partner with the Westmoreland County Food Bank to offer a breakfast and lunch program for school-age children. Breakfast will be from 10 to 11 a.m. with lunch at noon.

“Rockin’ Roosevelt” began in 2013.

After starting the summer in Arnold, New Ken-Arnold Social in the Park will end it with its annual Band Blast on Aug. 25 at Memorial Park in New Kensington.
