The Riverview School Board has two vacancies to fill.

Superintendent Neil English said board members Jeanine Hurt-Robinson and Jane Miller have resigned from the panel.

Their resignation letters weren’t immediately available. In an updated statement Wednesday, the district said that after consulting with the county department of elections, the school board only has the authority to appoint replacements to serve until its reorganization meeting Dec. 4.

According to the district, the recently opened two-year position will be included on the Nov. 7 election ballot as an additional open seat — therefore, there will be five open four-year slots and one open two-year position on the ballot.

“The board and our legal team will provide further information and clarification at the August 14th meeting as well,” read the statement posted to Riverview’s website.

Those interested in the newly opened two-year position must undergo the steps required by the Allegheny County Elections Division to be included on the ballot in the upcoming election.

To qualify for school board, residents must be at least 18, be of “good moral character” and a district resident for at least one year before the date of election or appointment. Those interested should send a letter of interest and resume before noon Thursday to 701 10th St., Oakmont.

The school board will interview interested candidates during its study session at 7 p.m. Monday at Verner Elementary School’s library. An appointment is expected to be made at the voting meeting at 7 p.m. Aug. 21.

Hurt-Robinson’s term expires in 2025; Miller’s term expires at the end of this year, and she did not seek reelection. Both were registered Democrats.

In the May primary, 10 people — five Democrats and five Republicans — sought the five four-year seats. Democrats who earned spots on the ballot include incumbents Jennifer K. Chaparro and Antonio Paris, and newcomers Leanne Jacobs-Rohan, Erin Schuetz and Roger Pogoda.

Republicans earning spots on the November ballot were Nick Paradise, Colette Saxon-Kmetz, Seth Wermager, Melissa Botta-Havran and Isabelle McDade.

The Riverview School District serves Oakmont and Verona boroughs.
