Rescued from atop New Kensington home, Roofus the cat waits to be claimed
A tabby cat rescued from atop a Fourth Avenue home in New Kensington is garnering some social media attention while fire crews search for its family.
Named Roofus by the emergency crew that saved him, the cat was taken to Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley in Parnassus and is waiting to be claimed.
The nonprofit, no-kill shelter is along Church Street.
The New Kensington Fire Department No. 2 posted to Facebook on Saturday that volunteers were dispatched just after 6 p.m. for a cat that appeared to be stuck on a roof. Fire crews found the pet across from the Williamsburg Manor Apartments on Sixth Avenue.
“With the help of Company 1’s ladder truck, we were able to bring the cat safely to the ground,” the post read.
“If you recognize this cat, please contact Animal Protectors.”
As of Monday morning, the cat still had not been claimed.
Fire member Dan Felack Sr. posted a plea for people to spread the word about Roofus.
“If you know whose cat it is, please let them know. If you are looking for a very young cat, Roofus (as our nickname) is an extremely friendly cat that loves attention. It will make someone a wonderful family member.”
