Rescue crews fail to find man who crashed on, then jumped from Hulton Bridge

Authorities will resume a search Wednesday morning for a man who jumped from the Hulton Bridge into the Allegheny River on Tuesday night.

Police responded to reports that a man jumped off the bridge after crashing on it around 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The man is believed to be 42 years old and from Verona, Harmar police Chief Jason Domaratz said. The identification was based on the vehicle registration and information inside the car, he said.

The man’s name was not released.

According to Domaratz, the man was crossing the bridge from Harmar toward Oakmont when he made a sharp left at about the middle of the bridge and hit the barrier. Witnesses said he jumped out of the vehicle and off the bridge.

Crews from Pittsburgh, Oakmont and Blawnox searched the river for about two hours and came up with nothing, Domaratz said.

The search is expected to resume at 9 a.m. Wednesday, he said.

The bridge was closed around 6:30 p.m. and reopened about four hours later, according to an Allegheny County 911 dispatcher.
