A woman escaped serious injury Friday morning when the SUV she was driving was forced off Allegheny Township’s South Leechburg Hill Road by a car that police say may have been racing another vehicle.
The crash happened just after 8:30 a.m.
According to police at the scene, the woman’s small SUV was bumped by another car. The impact sent the woman’s car careening into a guardrail and then through an auto repair shop parking lot, where it hit a parked SUV.
It then went about 20 feet down a wooded hillside and across a small creek.
The woman, who was not identified, had to be rescued from her car.
Witnesses told police another driver appeared to be racing up the road, away from Leechburg, when that car — possibly a black Honda Civic — bumped the woman’s car, sending it out of control.
The woman was taken to a hospital.
Her SUV had to be winched up a hill to be removed.
Police say they want to talk with the driver of the Honda Civic and anyone who saw the crash.
