Portion of Baileys Run in East Deer set for long-term closure
Tony Taliani knows as well as anyone the inconvenience that will be caused by the long-term partial closure of Baileys Run Road in East Deer.
The township commissioner lives along the stretch of the road that will be closed at 9 a.m. Monday, May 6 by the Allegheny County Department of Public Works.
“This is a two-phase project, so it’s going to last clear through October,” he said. “Hopefully, it will all be worth it.”
Beginning in May, more than 4,000 motorists will be detoured while crews build a retaining wall, improve drainage and complete paving.
In that first phase, the 400 block of Baileys Run will be targeted. Several hundred feet of wall will be replaced just beyond the Route 28 on-ramp.
It’s a project that wraps up construction that began last year, Taliani said.
The cost of the project is about $1.5 million. It will be completed by Plum-based Pugliano Construction Co.
Traffic will be detoured using Russellton Airport Road onto Butler-Logan Road, then Crawford Run and Freeport roads.
The first leg of work is expected to run through July. Immediately after, crews will turn to work in the 200 block of Baileys Run. Construction will include similar projects that include a retaining wall, paving and drainage.
The exact start date for the second phase will be announced by the county on social media and its website.
“The two sections sit about a half-mile apart,” Taliani said. “That section will impact the section that sits before the expressway ramp.”
The township will simultaneously be moving a waterline in that location.
“The work is needed but, hopefully, that’ll be it,” Taliani said.
