Beginning July 5, most of Argonne Drive in Harrison will close for up to two months for a paving project and other work.

A portion of a heavily traveled Harrison road will close in early July for up to two months.

Argonne Drive, which runs from Freeport Road near Highlands Middle School to the railroad tracks in Natrona, is scheduled to shut down at 9 a.m. on July 5.

Work is part of a $3.9 million project by the Allegheny County Department of Public Works. It will include paving, drainage and sidewalk repairs.

“Argonne Drive has been in need of maintenance for some time,” township Commissioner Chuck Dizard said.

“It is good that the county has it scheduled, but, needless to say, it will be a huge problem for people who regularly use the road for commuting between Natrona and (Natrona) Heights.”

Work will be done by A. Folino Construction Inc. of Oakmont.

Crews will work on nearly the entire stretch — from Carolina Avenue, which sits just beyond the football stadium, to Ash Street, not far from the Natrona Community Garden.

People who live within the closed area will be able to access their homes throughout the project.

Motorists are recommended to use Freeport Road to Springhill Road, and then turn on North Canal, Federal and Vine streets. Drivers also can use nearby Mile Lock Lane.

“Nothing can be done to minimize the inconvenience,” Dizard said. “At least we are getting some important infrastructure repairs accomplished.”
