Boyce Park wave pool closed for emergency repairs
The wave pool at Boyce Park will be closed for up to 10 days for emergency repairs, according to an Allegheny County news release.
The pool began losing water May 31 due to a malfunctioning “hydrostatic relief valve.”
The valves are designed to maintain pressure between water in the pool and water in the ground, said Brent Wasko with the county’s facilities management department.
“It is believed that excessive ground water due to recent heavy rainfall caused the valve to malfunction,” he said Tuesday.
The repairs can only happen once the pool is fully drained, a process that began Monday and typically takes three to four days. Once the water is drained, crews will replace the pool’s six valves and refill the pool.
The county owns and operates two other wave pools in Settlers Cabin Park and South Park. North Park also has a swimming pool.
Pools are open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. June 1 through September 2, depending on weather.
