New Kensington police are looking for a man they say seriously injured a woman after getting mad because she had fallen asleep.

Police charged Matthew Thomas Prokopczuk, 46, of Harrison on March 12 with a first-degree felony count of aggravated assault.

He was not in custody and had not been arraigned on the charge as of Wednesday, according to court records.

The incident happened at an apartment on Victoria Avenue on Feb. 21, according to court records.

An officer immediately called for paramedics after seeing the woman had obvious facial injuries, including massive swelling to her left cheek and orbital area, and a cut to her left eyebrow area.

The woman told police Prokopczuk got mad because she fell asleep. He started an argument, during which he punched her in the facethree times, court records state.

Prokopczuk left before police arrived, and officers were unable to find him.

The woman was taken to Allegheny Valley Hospital by ambulance.
