Police on Tuesday continued to investigate a Sunday shooting in which a man was shot in the hip during what police say was a drug deal gone bad in an Arnold alley, Chief Eric Doutt said.

The men suspected in the shooting remained at large Tuesday.

The shooting happened shortly before 7 p.m., Doutt said. Two men pulled up to a house along the 1600 block of Victoria Avenue to buy drugs when they were instructed by an unknown woman to go to Woodbine Alley, which runs behind Victoria. There they encountered two men in a red or burgundy, late-model SUV, Doutt said.

“Something occurred with the transaction, and he was shot,” Doutt said.

The 25-year-old victim was taken to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. Doutt didn’t have an update on the victim’s condition Tuesday. The chief did not have descriptions of the two men suspected in the shooting.

Doutt said at this point in the investigation he doesn’t know if Sunday’s shooting is related to other shootings that occurred in the 1600 block of Woodbine Alley in May and in the 500 block of Fourth Avenue at Fifth Street in New Kensington on Friday.

Police towed a car Sunday from Victoria Avenue as part of their investigation.

Doutt said the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Detective Bureau is assisting in the investigation.

A man who lives nearby but did not want to give his name said he was sitting on his porch when he heard a gunshot and the “next thing I know, police cars come.”

He said a shooting took place about two weeks ago in the same area. Someone shot out the windows of a greenhouse.

Anyone with information about the shooting should contact Arnold police at 724-339-9663.
