Police charge man in connection with work not completed at Lower Burrell gas station

Lower Burrell police charged a Findlay Township man with theft of services because the owner of a city gas station said contracted work was not completed.

Gregory Alan Scott, 33, of the Clinton section of Findlay Township was charged with two felony counts of deceptive business practices and theft by deception, according to court records.

The owner of the Exxon gas station at 2700 Leechburg Road contacted police June 6 to report a theft of services, according to a criminal complaint filed by Lower Burrell police. The owner said he hired GM Electrical Services, which Scott owns, to install light fixtures and complete other repairs and updates to the business.

The owner provided police with the service agreement dated April 9. The owner said he met and had been communicating with Scott, police said.

The owner told police the agreed-upon work was to be completed as soon as possible. As of June 19, work had not started, though the owner paid Scott with a $3,500 check, which was cashed April 27, the complaint said. The total contract for the work was $3,568, according to the complaint.

Police said the owner attempted to contact Scott but was unsuccessful.

Lower Burrell attempted to contact Scott by sending his local police department, Findlay Township, to his home, police said. The complaint said Findlay Township was able to speak with Scott and relay the message that Lower Burrell needed to speak with him, but Lower Burrell police stated in court papers that Scott had not contacted them.

A man who answered a phone number listed for what appeared to be GM Electrical Services on Facebook was not Scott.

A preliminary hearing for Scott is scheduled for Aug. 8 before District Judge Cheryl Peck Yakopec.
