A Plum man was arrested Saturday after, police say, he hit a man over the head with a piece of wood and fired a shot past his head.

Borough police charged Anthony Nicholas Carlisano, 56, with a felony count of aggravated assault and misdemeanor counts of simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.

Officers responded about 6:45 p.m. Saturday to a call on Perry Street, according to a criminal complaint. A woman was having a dispute with her husband, who fled before officers got there.

According to the complaint, Carlisano said he went to the woman’s home after she called him, saying she was having an argument with her husband and asked him to help defuse the situation.

With the husband acting erratically and approaching him, Carlisano said he grabbed the closest thing to him, a 3-foot-long piece of wood, and hit him over the head, breaking it in half but having no effect, the complaint states.

Carlisano then brandished a concealed handgun and fired one shot into the air past the husband’s head, after which he left the home, according to the complaint.

Based on Carlisano’s explanation, officers believe he did not point the firearm directly at the man or directly overhead, but about halfway between, the complaint states.

Officers found the gun on the ground.

The woman gave a similar account of what happened, the complaint states.

Police have been unable to reach the alleged victim and don’t know how seriously he was hurt.

Carlisano did not have an attorney listed in court records.

He was arraigned early Sunday and released after posting a $10,000 bond, according to court records.

Carlisano is scheduled for a preliminary hearing June 26 before District Judge Michael J. Doyle.
