Part-time Parks Township police Officer Kyle Lewis will be announced as chief of the department on Monday.

Supervisor Chairman Greg Artman said Lewis will take over for recently departed John Arce, who left June 30 for the Southern Armstrong Regional Police Department.

“Kyle’s a good kid,” Artman said. “I think he’ll be OK from what I’ve seen.”

Parks supervisors are scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. in the community building.

Lewis will take over the three-person force. His salary was not immediately available.

It was unclear if the township will hire someone to fill Lewis’ part-time postition on the department.

In recent years, Lewis worked for the township before leaving for stints in Kiski and Kittanning.

“He came back to us just in the nick of time,” Artman said.

Arce resigned in June, after 17 years as a full-time officer in Parks Township, the last year as chief.

He left the township for what he called a “better opportunity with a bigger police department.”

Arce serves as a lieutenant with Southern Armstrong Regional.

Prior to Arce, Parks was served by longtime-chief Doug Ciuca.
