Pa. Turnpike stretch will close early Sunday morning for bridge work in Plum
The Pennsylvania Turnpike will be closed between the Allegheny Valley (Exit 48) and Pittsburgh (Exit 57) interchanges from midnight through 5 a.m. on Sunday.
Drivers will not be permitted to continue through the area after 11 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29.
The five-hour closure is necessary so work crews can remove bridge beams from the bridge carrying Saltsburg Road traffic over the Turnpike in Plum.
Message boards will be in place to inform customers at the Oakmont/Plum service plaza.
The following detours are in place.
For eastbound drivers:
• Exit at Allegheny Valley onto Freeport Road, Route 910 west, Route 28 south to the Veterans Bridge exit in Pittsburgh, onto the Parkway East to Exit 15 in Monroeville and back onto the Turnpike at the Pittsburgh exit (Exit 57, in Monroeville).
For westbound drivers:
• Exit at the Pittsburgh interchange in Monroeville, take the Parkway East to I-279 north in Pittsburgh, bear right on the Fort Duquesne Bridge to Route 28 north, exit at Harmar and take Route 910 east, make a left onto Freeport Road and re-enter the Turnpike at the Allegheny Valley (Exit 48, in Harmar).
Flaggers will direct local traffic across the Saltsburg Road bridge during the closure.
