O'Hara appoints 3rd Ward rep to serve vacancy
A consultant who worked previously as the assistant athletic director for Fox Chapel Area High School was appointed to fill a vacancy on O’Hara council.
Republican Greg Caprara will represent the township’s 3rd Ward through 2021.
He is serving the remainder of a term vacated last month by Scott Frankowski.
“I decided to apply for the council seat based on my experience in both municipal work and education,” Caprara said. “I’ve been fortunate enough to work serving the needs of communities for most of my career.”
Now that his job no longer requires extensive travel, he felt ready to commit to public service.
Councilman George Stewart said he cast his vote for Caprara because of the candidate’s experience in project management, budgeting and strategic business development.
Stewart considers Caprara a leader that has demonstrated the ability to work with a team and stakeholders to make decisions.
“Just as importantly, he has worked in positions where he successfully interfaced with the public to solve problems,” Stewart said.
Caprara has lived in the township since 2003. He has worked previously for municipal governments in Greensburg and in the four municipalities of the Beaver Area School District. He currently works as a strategic consultant for various businesses in Pittsburgh and across the country that focus on technology, medical and education.
During his foray into public service, Caprara said he plans to emphasize listening above all else.
“I think it’s important for me to listen to the constituents,” he said. “I would like to learn and understand what their expectations and needs are. My job is to represent them and that requires me to listen more than to speak at this time.”
