New Tarentum manager eager to be part of borough's growth
Tarentum’s new manager, Dwight Boddorf, feels he is joining the borough at the perfect time.
“It seems like there’s a good connection between council, businesses and residents, and I want to be part of the growing success,” said Boddorf, 35, who serves as Stowe Township administrator.
His first day in Tarentum will be Thursday, Sept.1.
A resident of Bellevue, Boddorf considered the job in part because of its location. A native of Summit Township, Butler County, the borough position brings him closer to home and his family.
“When the job became open, I heard from some friends about how great a town it is, and I looked a little closer into it,” he said. “I met with council, and everyone seemed like they were on the same page. It felt like the right move.”
Boddorf earned his bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Penn State University and his master’s in public policy and management from the University of Pittsburgh. He will be paid $89,000.
He brings an eclectic background of government experience.
Before working in Stowe, Boddorf was the chief veterans affairs officer for Allegheny County and also was outreach coordinator and patient advocate for the Department of Veteran Affairs.
Councilwoman Lou Ann Homa touted Boddorf’s experience. She said he has an array of knowledge and understanding of different government entities, which could benefit Tarentum.
Council President Scott Dadowski said he believes Boddorf will be a good fit with residents.
He called the new manager a fantastic communicator and said he believes he will take the time to build a rapport with the people and shop owners throughout the borough.
The former manager, Michael Nestico, resigned June 3 to take an administrative job with the municipality of Murrysville.
Dadowski said council didn’t have to search too long to find a replacement. The borough was assisted by the Allegheny League of Municipalities’ Public Partners program.
Boddorf is eager to get settled into his new role and already has thoughts about recreation initiatives that could appeal to residents.
He would like to work toward a public access dock along the riverfront at Riverview Memorial Park.
“The park is beautiful, and I would hope that residents get to enjoy access to the river in their town,” he said.
Boddorf attended a recent Tarentum Night Market and said he was impressed by the “art scene” and the crowds of people the event attracted.
“There’s so much potential here,” he said.
