New Kensington shooting suspect arrested in Brackenridge
An Ohio man wanted on attempted homicide charges was taken into custody early Monday in Brackenridge.
Tarentum police were dispatched shortly before midnight Sunday to the Devil Dog Saloon along Sixth Avenue on a tip that a man wanted as a suspect in a New Kensington shooting was inside the bar.
New Kensington police confirmed they had a warrant for Iven Cashua Miller, 37, of Cleveland, who was identified as the man in the bar.
New Kensington police accused Miller of shooting at two people in June 2023 in the 1200 block of Victoria Avenue.
As officers from as many as 13 departments closed in on the bar, the criminal complaint said, a man who matched the description of Miller fled from the scene in a car.
Allegheny County police used a drone to try to find Miller but were unsuccessful. A West Deer officer and police dog began a search, and Miller was found in some weeds behind a house in the 700 block of Sixth Avenue, where he was taken into custody, the complaint said.
Police questioned Dakota Haynes, who was identified as the driver of the car. She first told police, they said, that she was with a man who was wearing a black shirt and red pants, but police reported Miller was wearing a green sweatsuit.
Haynes then told police a relative called her and asked her to pick someone up at the bar and drive them to the Parnassus section of New Kensington for $50. Asked by police who her boyfriend was, she said it was Miller, but said the man who ran from police wasn’t Miller.
When Miller was taken into custody, police said, Haynes admitted she knew Miller was wanted by police.
Police charged Haynes, 29, of New Kensington with a felony count of hindering apprehension or prosecution. A preliminary hearing for her is scheduled June 12 before District Judge Carolyn S. Bengel.
From Sunday’s incident, Miller was charged with flight to avoid apprehension and faces a preliminary hearing June 12 before Bengel.
