New Kensington police said they found a man sitting in a pool of his own blood after a neighbor attacked him with a brick Monday.

Police said the suspect, Christopher Michael Perry, 39, told officers he hit his neighbor in the head with a brick because the man is “a liar.”

Police said they responded to the assault in the 200 block of Fifth Avenue shortly after 10:30 a.m. Monday. The victim was sitting on his own porch, while Perry had gone back to his home.

According to a criminal complaint against Perry, police said the victim told officers that Perry came into his home without permission, grabbed him and dragged him out of his house. The man said Perry grabbed a brick and started hitting him in the head, the complaint said.

Police said a witness recounted seeing Perry hit the victim with the brick four to five times.

Police said the victim was sitting in a pool of blood with “copious amounts” of blood surrounding him and covering his upper and lower body. Three cuts on the top of his head were bleeding profusely, the complaint said.

Medics told police the victim suffered multiple severe lacerations to his head and other injuries, including a swollen right clavicle, bruising to the abdomen and defensive wounds to his hands and arms, according to the complaint. He was taken to Allegheny General Hospital for head trauma.

Police said when they went to Perry’s home and asked if he had an altercation with his neighbor, Perry began to answer “with a very cocky demeanor and smirking.”

According to the complaint, Perry eventually said, “Yeah, I went over to his house and hit him in the head with a brick because he’s a liar.”

Police said Perry reiterated the word “liar” and said it aggressively, with his body shaking as he said it intensely.

Asked if he understood what could happen as a result of hitting his neighbor with a brick, Perry said, “Probably go to prison,” the complaint states.

Police said Perry told them he didn’t consider a brick to be a weapon because it was just laying there. Police found the brick, with blood on it, on the porch next to where the victim was sitting, the complaint said.

While police were speaking with medics, Perry came off his porch and began approaching the victim’s home, the complaint said. Police said Perry disregarded their orders to stop, after which officers took Perry to the ground and handcuffed him.

Police said they found blood on Perry’s watch.

Perry did not have an attorney listed in court records. He is charged with felony counts of aggravated assault and burglary and misdemeanor offenses of unlawful restraint and resisting arrest.

Perry was being held in the Westmoreland County jail on a $25,000 bail. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing before New Kensington District Judge Frank J. Pallone Jr. on June 23.
