Traffic along Sun Mine Road in Fawn could be affected in coming weeks after the township supervisors approved installation of new guiderails.

“We already paved it; this is just putting the finishing touch on certain sections,” Township Secretary Pam Ponsart said.

Canonsburg-based Interstate Enterprises was awarded the contract at the board’s meeting Thursday morning. The cost is $18,825.

Sun Mine Road, which sits off of Route 908, was paved during last year’s road improvement program.

The township in 2021 had a $1.9 million budget that included $300,000 to pave that road. Work was part of a full-depth reclamation project to bring Sun Mine Road up to PennDOT standards.

In other action

• The board increased the pension rate for non-union employees. The rate will climb slightly from 1.25% to 1.50%, Ponsart said.

“Any little bit helps,” she said.

• The board agreed to begin the process of rewriting the township’s zoning ordinance, first drafted in about 1995.

“It doesn’t have strong protections for antenna towers,” Solicitor Sean Gallagher said. “The township is just starting the process on that section.”

The board will continue to discuss special provisions to be added.

The supervisors meets next at 6 p.m. May 10 in the municipal building at 3054 Howes Run Road.
