A Maryland woman is facing charges of aggravated assault after allegedly attacking a state trooper who stopped her for driving the wrong way on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
Margot Bass, 53, of Takoma Park was arrested just before 1 a.m. Thursday.
She faces a preliminary hearing before Judge Tom Swan in West Deer on a felony charge of assault along with two counts of resisting arrest and one count of driving the wrong direction on a one-way road.
The date for the hearing has not yet been scheduled.
According to the criminal complaint, a state trooper approached Bass’ vehicle, which was pulled over in the wrong direction and partially blocking a travel lane on the turnpike.
When Bass refused to roll down the window or provide ID, police said, so the officer forced his way into the vehicle by breaking the driver’s side window.
When the officer reached into the window to unlock the door, Bass attempted to rake the officer’s arm along the broken glass, cutting his arm and hand, according to court documents.
She then began to bite, kick and scratch the officer, police said.
Bass was restrained and taken to Forbes Hospital in Monroeville for an evaluation, according to the complaint.
