Police gather at the scene Monday afternoon along Garfield Street in Harrison.

Police from multiple departments in the Alle-Kiski Valley were called out to search for suspects who fled after a vehicle was shot up in Arnold late Monday morning.

The incident began at 11:30 a.m. in the 1900 block of Kenneth Avenue, according to a Westmoreland County 911 supervisor. There were no injuries reported as a result of the shooting.

According to 911 emergency broadcasts, the suspects fled across the New Kensington bridge into East Deer and then into Tarentum, Brackenridge and Harrison before ditching the vehicle and taking off on foot.

Arnold police Chief Eric Doutt said there were four people involved in the shooting, including at least one woman who was taken into custody after fleeing on foot.

“A K9 unit from New Kensington was called in to join the chase and found the woman hiding inside a garage,” the chief said.

Officers who were searching for the remaining suspects told curious residents to remain indoors.

“We know there were at least two guns involved in the shooting, so for their own safety we are asking people to stay inside their homes,” Doutt said.

At 12:30 p.m., Highlands School District officials posted the following notice on the district’s website:

“Due to an outside police matter, as an extra precaution for the safety of our students and staff, all Highlands schools are on an internal shutdown. No one will be permitted in or out of the buildings at this time.”

The shutdown was lifted an hour later, and normal operations were resumed at all schools.
