Detectives continue to investigate a shooting along Kenneth Avenue in New Kensington Thursday night.

A middle aged man was shot in New Kensington on Thursday afternoon, according to police.

About 3:30 p.m., police blocked off the 1000 block of Kenneth Avenue for a shooting. A landing zone was set up at Valley High School.

Investigators at the scene directed all inquiries to the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office.

Melanie Jones, the district attorney office’s spokeswoman, would only confirm that a male was shot during the incident. She said Thursday evening that an investigation was ongoing.

Other information wasn’t immediately available.

Leetha O’Neil has lived nearby on McCargo Street for a year. She said she was outside on her porch when she heard a fire whistle around 3:30 p.m.

“It’s normally pretty quiet, but I didn’t hear a gun or anything,” she said.

Thursday’s incident marks the second shooting in that area this month. An Oct. 2 shooting in the 1500 block of Woodmont Avenue in Arnold left one person in the hospital; no arrests have been made in that case.
