Lower Burrell urges caution with door-to-door salespeople, vendors
Lower Burrell officials are asking residents to be cautious when approached by door-to-door salespeople and vendors.
The city’s Facebook account said some companies are going door-to-door without a permit and being overly aggressive with residents.
Residents are advised to make sure door-to-door salespeople and vendors have proper, city-issued permits. A city ordinance gives residents a right to ask them to produce their permit for inspection.
Anyone who feels unsafe in such circumstances should call Lower Burrell Police.
The city offered the following tips:
1. Don’t let salespeople or vendors push you into letting them come into your home.
2. Make sure they have official company identification.
3. Make them produce a city-issued permit. “If they say no, they must go,” the city said.
4. Don’t be pressured into signing a contract on the spot. Take your time and review both the permit and the company.
5. Don’t be pressured into allowing someone to check on a meter or something inside your home. If you do let someone inside, never let them out of your sight.
6. Consider taking their information and tell them you will call them another time.
7. Make them take no for an answer if you do not want the goods or service.
