A Lower Burrell man was accused of strangling his girlfriend during an argument after she found evidence on his telephone that he was communicating with other women.

Christoper Mark Wiley of Leechburg Road was charged with one felony count of strangulation as well as lesser charges of aggravated assault and making terroristic threats in connection with the Dec. 1 incident, according to a criminal complaint.

He is being detained in the Westmoreland County Prison after failing to post a $30,000 bond. He faces a preliminary hearing on the charges before District Judge Cheryl Peck Yakopec on Dec. 21.

Police arrested Wiley after his girlfriend called them on Dec. 7 to report that she was assaulted by Wiley during an argument the previous week, the complaint said.

The woman told police that she and Wiley began arguing after she went through his phone and “it appeared that he was talking with other girls.”

Wiley is accused of grabbing the woman by the shirt and pulling her toward him several times during which his head struck her face and broke her eyeglasses in half, the complaint said.

The woman tried to back away from Wiley but ended up pressed against a table, police said.

Wiley is accused of grabbing the woman by the neck and banging her head against the table at least 10 times before throwing her to the floor, according to his arrest papers.

The woman told police that she could not breathe while Wiley was squeezing her neck.

The woman told police that before leaving the house, Wiley threatened to kill her because she said would report him to his parole officer.
