A lane shift along Route 28 is expected to begin Saturday, July 30, and last through August 2023.

A long-term lane shift along Route 28 near O’Hara is scheduled to begin Saturday to accommodate a paving project.

PennDOT announced that work will begin at 5 a.m. on southbound Route 28 and impact the stretch that runs through Aspinwall, Sharpsburg and O’Hara.

Motorists will be shifted from the current left-hand single-lane restriction to the right lane between the Virginia Avenue Extension on-ramp and the Highland Park Bridge interchange.

The switch is expected to last through August 2023.

Crews from Golden Triangle Construction will be paving the road.

Drivers are encouraged to allow extra time for backups.

Not far up the road, a closure of the southbound off-ramp from the expressway to Fox Chapel Road also is causing travel delays.

Crews are working to rebuild the ramp and pave it. The project is expected to last through mid-August, detouring vehicles to the Highland Park Bridge.
