Lindsay Fraser unseats Tom Kish as Brackenridge mayor
Brackenridge residents cast a ballot for change on Tuesday, electing a new mayor for the first time in 12 years.
Political newcomer Lindsay Fraser, who is not affiliated with any party, handily won the election against Democratic incumbent Thomas Kish by more than 30%, with a total of 275 votes to 209.
“I’m grateful that so many Brackenridge residents are invested in moving our town forward,” said Fraser, 37, who was born and raised in the borough.
“I’m looking forward to a new chapter.”
Kish, 68, a retired crane operator from Allegheny Ludlum (now ATI), spent 16 years in local government.
When the final votes were tallied just after 10 p.m., Kish thanked the people who voted for him but said it was time to retire from public service.
“Good luck to her,” he said. “I hope she does a good job.”
Fraser holds a master’s degree in public health and worked previously for Harrison Township’s zoning office.
There will be an effort to steer council’s cooperation with neighboring communities for zoning enforcement, planning and more, Fraser said. Communication with residents will also be a priority for the new mayor.
An email-based newsletter will be launched, along with frequent social media and borough website updates. Fraser maintains a Facebook page.
“I think we need to partner with young people and leverage their technology skills,” Fraser said.
“I want to promote civic engagement and educate people about local governance. It’s time for the next generation to step into these roles.”
