A search of the Kiski River in Gilpin ended in less than two hours late Tuesday night as crews discovered a person in need of assistance.

The person, whose name and condition weren’t immediately available, was being tended to by medics, according to an Armstrong County 911 dispatch supervisor.

Crews from the Gilpin and Leechburg fire departments were called out just before 9:45 p.m. Tuesday for the search along the river, according to Gilpin firefighters.

Watercraft were deployed in the search centered around 150 Banfield Road, near Leechburg. Firefighters from Vandergrift, North Apollo and Markle were called to assist, according to the 911 supervisor.

Additional details weren’t immediately available.
